CONTEXT
Logistics Provider C exclusively uses EDI over a VAN to connect with
its Shippers, using a varied set of standards derived mainly from
EDIFACT. Previous investment in EDI, made at the request of Shippers,
has proven to be very expensive, and Logistics Provider C does not
want to have any additional development to connect to a new Shipper.
CHALLENGE
Logistics Provider C requires to use current EDI infrastructure
to connect to the Teleroute hub.
SOLUTION
The solution designed by Teleroute involves message mapping to/from
XML from/to EDI, using an existing set of messages acceptable by
Logistics Provider C, and the setup of a bridge between Internet
and the VAN, allowing conversion between Internet emails (SMTP,
POP3/IMAP protocols) and VAN specific protocols. Security requirements
in this case were very low.
